Workshop automation is a practical gate before Shuddersands — higher Hearth tiers, refined planks, and mid-tier cloth unlock faster progression and better gear padding for desert heat and Matriarch prep. Aim for Hearth level 7 while you are still on Mira Isles, not after you cross Isle Bridge.
Hearth Level 7
Work backward from level 7 material totals using the Hearth Upgrade Calculator. Typical blockers before the desert:
- Tier 3–4 upgrades from Cinderbloom, Chirili Tuft, and boss tears (main quest covers much of this).
- Tier 5–7 need sustained Spirit Dust, Refined Planks, and station unlocks from the Luminary tree.
Do not skip Spinner and Sawmill unlocks — they convert familiars into passive production instead of hand-crafting every plank and bolt of cloth.
Spinner and Sawmill
Lamloof (starter region) — capture a Lamloof and assign it to the Spinner. It automates basic textile output so you can craft robes and mid-tier gear without standing at the wheel.
Lety (Timberline Basin beach) — Lety familiars excel at wood processing. After unlocking the Sawmill, bond multiple Letys if needed and station them to mass-produce Refined Planks. Manual Simple Planks fall off hard once Refined Planks gate later recipes.
Route tip: set up Timberline beach Hearth fast travel first (main quest Phase 4), then run Lety capture loops between beach camps.
Alder Wood
Craft a Spirit Lodging Sickle at the workbench once the recipe unlocks. Travel to R'hyrrgar's Stronghold surroundings and farm purple-leaf magic trees for Alder Wood — a higher-tier timber used in advanced equipment and Hearth upgrades.
- Purple-leaf canopies stand out against normal oak groves; circle the stronghold outer ring systematically.
- Pair harvesting with orb collection if you still owe Mira Isles flight orbs.
- Bank Alder Wood before Isle Bridge so desert entry is crafting-ready, not a emergency grind.
