Witchspire blends cozy survival with spell-driven exploration, and Early Access hides a surprising number of systems behind simple menus. New players often stall not because combat is unfair, but because they miss small rules — no skill respecs, Hearth-only fast travel, familiar-gated crafting, and shrine types that look identical on the map. This guide walks through every core control and survival loop we verified across recent builds, so you can progress main story quests without backtracking. Whether you are setting up your first sanctum or returning after a patch, treat this page as your on-ramp before diving into farming routes or familiar hunting.
Progression loop
Main story quests expect you to stockpile resources and push the central Hearth skill tree — the middle column of light nodes. Branch sideways when you feel like exploring, but the center path unlocks core tools like the Broom and key stations.
There is currently no way to respec a skill point. Read each node carefully before committing.
Prioritize the central column early; side branches are optional exploration rewards.
Map controls
Zoom — Scroll the mouse wheel in or out.
Pan — Hold right-click and drag to move the map view.
Hearth fast travel
Fast travel only works between activated Hearths — not to arbitrary map pins.
If you're stranded — Use a Return scroll or the "I'm stuck" option in the ESC menu to warp to the nearest Hearth first.
Travel step — Stand next to a Hearth, open the map, then left-click the destination Hearth icon.
Combat & movement
Dodge — Hold Ctrl to evade incoming attacks.
Fall safety — Combine a Ctrl dash with a jump before landing to reduce fall damage.
Double jump — Unlock via a Spirit Sphere node in the skill tree, or temporarily through gear with a vigor/charge effect and certain food buffs.
Broom — Blueprint unlocks from the central skill tree. Level the middle path, then craft it at your station.
Crafting stations
Most production buildings need a familiar assigned before crafting begins. Look for the plus-icon slot, match the suggested element or role, and place a compatible familiar inside.
If crafting stalls or lags, remove the familiar from the building and assign it again.
Familiars can speed up or unlock specific stations — check the hint text on the slot.
Enemies & respawns
Standard mobs — Respawn on a timer and can be farmed repeatedly.
Bosses — One-time encounters — drops do not respawn with the boss.
Familiar combat — Active familiars mainly attack when you command them (Q / E), but they also chip in passively during fights.
Healing items
Some consumables restore health instantly; others raise your maximum HP pool.
Heal yourself — Left-click the item.
Heal your familiar — Right-click the item.
Gardens, chests & XP shrines
Garden plots — Equip seeds, stand on the plot, then left-click to plant.
Hidden chests — Listen for a rhythmic knocking sound — a loot crate is bouncing nearby.
White shrines — Grant skill points for the Hearth / central light tree.
Yellow shrines — Increase inventory carrying capacity.
Wrapping up
Once movement, crafting assignments, and shrine rewards feel second nature, the rest of Witchspire opens up quickly. Stockpile materials whenever you travel, keep the central Hearth tree moving, and place familiars before you queue long craft jobs. When you are ready to specialize, start with our Wand & Spell Loadouts guide if you are building your first spell bar, then continue with our Resource Farming Routes guide for ore and rare flora locations, then Familiar Hunting & Incense for soul capture strategy.
