Flight Pillars gate broom travel per region. Until you touch every orb tied to a zone's pillar, flight stamina drains fast or flight may be restricted entirely. Hunt orbs while doing nearby main-quest markers — do not save them all for after the story sends you back.
Overview
Each major region connects to a Flight Pillar (sometimes called a Flight Tower on the map). Scattered energy orbs power that pillar. The game expects 3–4 orbs per region before free broom use unlocks.
General tips:
- Grab orbs with your broom whenever you see a glow near cliffs, ruins, or beaches.
- Open the map after each orb — cleared areas often reveal shortcuts for the next main quest.
- Missing even one orb commonly causes soft-lock frustration before bridge or desert segments.
Timberline Basin
Unlock flight here before deep Tower Cavern runs. Orbs sit along the beach approach, cliff paths toward Al'uunian Tower, and elevated ridges above the lower beach biome.
After the Notes From Underground key quest, sweep the basin again — some orbs only make sense once you can fast travel back from Witchspire.
Mira Isles & Isle Bridge
This region matters for Activate the Bridge prep. Collect 4 of 5 Mira Isles orbs before crossing the spectral bridge if possible — the upper ruins segment assumes you can reposition with broom flight.
Check around:
- Isle Bridge pedestals and lower vine islands
- Eastell coastal cliffs
- R'hyrrgar's Stronghold outskirts (post-boss sweep)
The fifth orb often appears in the upper ruins hub after bridge activation — plan a return trip rather than expecting a clean 5/5 beforehand.
Shuddersands
Desert flight is heat-sensitive by day. Collect orbs at night or from shaded routes when the heat bar is a concern. Orbs ring Valas Oasis approaches, Vykar Savannah edges, and Flight Pillar mesas.
Full desert pillar activation makes Matriarch routing and altar backtracking far less painful — treat it as mandatory prep, not sightseeing.
